Whenipee History

Whenipee was originally home to several Indian tribes. With the wealth of the land and the river they hunted and fished throughout the area. Often they camped along the Whenipee River where the salmon was plentiful. These days very little remains of these Indian camps, but many sections have been preserved for their history.

Years and years ago the land was covered with old growth forest. Pioneers came along and cut down trees and removed the stumps to make the land suitable for agriculture. The richness of the land and the bountiful lake and river provided those who settled here with everything they needed to be sustainable.
